How Do You Download and Keep a Local Folder of 4K Wallpapers?

Download the original 3840x2160 PNG from this site, put it in a folder you control on the internal disk, and never let a sync client or a chat app replace that file with a smaller copy. Windows, macOS, and Linux all browse a folder of stills. The folder is the product. The site does not need an account and does not keep a locker for you.

Use the archive or a tag list, open a wallpaper, and use the download control on that page. Do not save the on-page preview. How you may use the files is on the license page. This page is only download and hygiene.

Download the original PNG once

The file you want is a PNG at 3840x2160. The page also shows a 1920-pixel WebP preview. Right-click, Save image, on the preview is the wrong click. Use the download action that serves the original.

Save into the destination folder, not into Downloads. Downloads gets emptied. A wallpaper you set by path will go black when that happens. Pictures\Wallpapers on Windows, Pictures/Wallpapers on a Mac or on Linux, is a path the OS file picker already likes.

One download per still is enough. You do not need a ZIP pack and you do not need to re-download to change monitors. Crop exports for phone or ultrawide are extra files you make later. They sit next to the master. They do not replace it.

If the download is tiny, a few tens of kilobytes for a busy HUD, you may have the preview or a failed transfer. Check dimensions. If the file is not 3840x2160, download again.

Do not run the PNG through a "compress images" utility. Those tools exist to make JPEGs for email. They will undo the lossless HUD work.

Name and sort so you can find it

Keep the site filename if it is already a slug. A name like neon-grid-tunnel-4k.png sorts and searches. IMG_0042.png does not. If the download is a hash, rename it once to the page slug and leave it.

Use folders by job, not by mood alone:

Wallpapers/Desktop-4K for 3840x2160 masters you actually set.

Wallpapers/Ultrawide-3440 for the 3440x1440 exports.

Wallpapers/Phone for the 1080x1920 or 1440x2560 exports.

Wallpapers/Inbox if you want a drop zone before you verify pixels.

Point Windows Slideshow at Desktop-4K, not at Inbox, and not at the whole Pictures library. The slideshow guide assumes every member is the same size.

A text file in the folder, sources.txt, with the page URL per file, is enough if you ever want the same still again. You do not need a database. You do not need to mirror the site.

Do not store the same master in five folders. Shortcuts or a single Desktop-4K path keep disk honest. Copies drift. One of them becomes a JPEG and you will set the wrong one.

Do not let sync tools recompress it

OneDrive Files On-Demand, iCloud Optimize Mac Storage, and Google Drive streaming all like to replace a file with a placeholder. Windows Picture mode stores a path. When the path is a placeholder and the laptop is offline, the desktop can go black or fall back to a color. Pin Wallpapers available offline. On OneDrive, Free up space is the opposite button. Do not click it on this folder.

Some mobile sync apps re-encode images to JPEG when they upload. If you use the phone as a transport, copy the PNG in Files, not through a photos backup that says it will save space. Set wallpaper on the phone from that Files copy. The Android and iPhone pages warn about the same derivative.

Antivirus quarantine can steal a PNG after you set it. If the desktop dies the same day a scanner runs, look in the quarantine chest before you re-download.

Do not keep the only copy in a project repo or a temp build folder. Those get cleaned. A wallpaper folder is boring on purpose.

When the folder is stable, set a still with Windows Picture, Mac Wallpaper, or Linux. Browse to Desktop-4K. If you want rotation, browse Slideshow to that same folder, not to Downloads.

If you also want a moving version of a given picture, that lives on Unique Live Wallpaper. Keep the still PNG anyway. The folder on disk is how you get the desktop back after an OS reset.
